Solar systems passed the test – now scaling to 150 vehicles
Frode Laursen tested solar for 7 months, eliminated battery breakdowns and improved fuel economy — and is now expanding across its fleet.
About Frode Laursen
Frode Laursen is one of the largest transport companies in the Nordics, with 700 trucks and 1,750 trailers – and a clear strategy for service, operational efficiency and sustainability. Since 2020, scope 1+2 emissions have been reduced by 45%, and they reached their 2030 climate targets as early as 2025. The share of our own transports running on alternative fuels has grown from 39% in 2024 to 45% in 2025, alongside investments in longer, more efficient vehicle combinations. To drive further progress in efficiency and sustainability, Frode looked to innovate with solar on diesel vehicles.

The Challenge
Electric trucks are entering the fleet as the technology and infrastructure mature. In the meantime, Frode Laursen was looking for solutions to improve efficiency and sustainability wherever possible. Every new technology has to earn its place, so any solar investment needed to prove itself first.
The Solution
Frode Laursen tested 52 solar systems from Green Energy on trucks and trailers over 7 months, with system sizes ranging from 120 Wp to 360 Wp. The goals were clear: less vehicle downtime, longer battery life, better fuel economy and lower CO2 emissions.
Scaling Up
The results held up. Frode Laursen eliminated battery breakdowns and improved fuel economy, earning solar a place in both its operational and sustainability strategy. The next 100 systems are already on their way, taking the fleet to 150 solar-equipped vehicles in the first phase.
TESTIMONIAL
“We look at every option that can cut costs, improve operations and reduce CO2 emissions. Solar was one of the technologies we tested. The test gave us what we needed – we eliminated battery breakdowns and improved fuel economy – so we are now expanding to 150 vehicles in the first phase. The results have earned solar a place in both our operational and sustainability strategy.”
