Blaguss Group is rolling out solar across their fleet of diesel and electric coaches after a pilot delivered clear savings. Green Energy Group says every coach operator should be doing the same.
Solar is a game-changer for bus fleet operators. That’s the conclusion of Paul Blaguss, CEO of Blaguss Group, after a successful 6-month pilot with Green Energy vehicle-mounted solar systems. The pilot delivered savings of 1,616 to 2,052 litres of diesel per bus per year – equivalent to 4.3 to 5.5 tonnes of CO₂ reduced per vehicle, with an expected payback of approximately 18 months.
Vehicle-mounted solar saves energy on every bus, whatever it runs on. On diesel, HVO and biogas coaches, it cuts fuel consumption directly. On electric coaches, it reduces battery draw — supporting range, battery health and independence from the grid. There is an efficiency benefit across every powertrain.
Blaguss Group, one of the largest coach operators in Austria and Eastern Europe with a fleet of more than 600 vehicles, saw this first-hand, and did not wait. A fleet-wide rollout began in Q1 2026, covering both diesel and electric coaches. Solar systems have been fitted to their new T12E long-range battery-electric coaches – 12 state-of-the-art vehicles with a range of up to 500 km.
“Solar is a real game-changer. The pilot delivered clear fuel savings and CO₂ reductions that align with our company goals. On that basis, the decision was clear: we are now deploying Green Energy solar systems across our entire fleet as quickly and comprehensively as possible.”
— Paul Blaguss, Owner and CEO, Blaguss Group
One technology. Every drivetrain.
The case for solar does not change as fleets transition from diesel to alternative powertrains. It is not a diesel fix or an electric upgrade. It is an efficiency tool that works regardless of what is in the tank – or the battery.
Green Energy Group believes bus and coach operators should be including solar as an integral part of their fuel efficiency and decarbonisation planning.
” Operators who are serious about decarbonisation are finding that solar fits every stage of the journey. The savings on diesel are proven and compelling. Now Blaguss is leading the way deploying solar on their new electric coach fleet. And our solar pilot on HVO and biogas vehicles with DHL Freight Sweden will give us more insights later this year.”

The Blaguss pilot: results in detail
The pilot ran across 17 buses in regional and long-distance service over six months, testing different solar system sizes. The results were consistent and compelling.
| Metric | Lower range | Upper range |
| Diesel saved per bus per year | 1,616 litres | 2,052 litres |
| CO₂ reduced per bus per year | 4.3 tonnes | 5.5 tonnes |
| Expected payback period | approx. 18 months | — |
| Pilot duration | 6 months | — |
| Buses in pilot | 17 | — |
| Fleet rollout — Phase 1 | 50 buses | Q1 2026 |
Based on the pilot results, Blaguss committed to a full fleet rollout. Phase 1 covers 50 buses from Q1 2026, spanning both diesel and electric vehicles.
