In 2023, Green Energy partnered with the transport company Samat International AB. The goal was to reduce CO2 emissions and diesel consumption for trucks by 1 %.
The impact was measured using Green Energy’s CIGS solar solution. After 15 months, the total reduction from 12 trucks was 5%, corresponding to savings of 11.240 litres of diesel and 30 tonnes of CO2. The diesel savings resulted in a 12-month payback for the company, while the trucks’ battery life doubled and there was less idling recorded.
The insights gained from this project are now being applied to heavy transport across Europe and the US, where Green Energy is targeting a 5% reduction, equivalent to a reduction of 50 million tonnes of CO2.
The solution is based on the company’s CIGS solar technology, which, together with an IoT charge controller, optimises battery charging, energy consumption and reporting. The technology works by installing solar panels on the roof of the vehicles, enabling solar energy to support the electrical systems and reduce reliance on the truck’s generator, resulting in fuel savings.
In 2024, Green Energy reached a total production of 103 MWh and saved 698.000 litres of diesel and 1.900 tonnes of CO2. The goal is to triple production in 2025.
Our project was selected by Børsen, one of Denmark’s leading business publications as one of their Sustainability Cases for 2025, recognising our contribution to sustainable Danish innovation and showcasing our innovative solar panel solution in combatting climate change in the heavy transport sector.
