Preserving Skov Studio’s clean lines and aesthetics while modernising sustainably
For sisters Julie and Simone Lundgaard, founders of Skov Studio, this was the central question as they embarked on renovating their home. Sustainability was essential – but so was ensuring that every element felt in harmony with the architecture and the surrounding forest. From the outset, they wanted a solution that could generate renewable energy without disrupting the home’s aesthetic.
“We chose solutions that make the house blend naturally into its surroundings, and the integrated solar panels from Green Energy are a natural extension of that,” says Julie and Simone. “They deliver energy without disturbing the overall expression and contribute to the home’s simple, calm look.”
Green Energy’s ultra-thin CIGS solar panels made this possible, adapting seamlessly to the roof while ensuring long-term renewable energy production.
A philosophy of longevity
Founded in 2023, Skov Studio is a design workshop nestled in a Danish forest, where Julie and Simone handcraft beautiful wooden objets that celebrate the material’s natural qualities. Each piece embraces its natural variations, which are often repaired or enhanced using traditional techniques that add character and depth.
The same philosophy guided the renovation of their home. While the original 1967 structure was carefully preserved, the roof, windows and façade were renewed. Inspired by Nordic and Japanese architecture, the design emphasises clean lines, natural materials, and seamless transitions between indoors and outdoors. The façades combine plaster with wood sourced from their own land. Treated using the Japanese shou sugi ban technique, this enhances durability and adds a rich, tactile surface.

Holistic solar integration
For Julie and Simone, aesthetics are non-negotiable. Every choice is expressed through a balance of proportions, materials and surfaces – including the solar roof.
‘We are really pleased with how the solar panels are integrated into the roof. They create a serenel impression that complements the architecture of the house instead of detracting from it. It’s not a compromise, but a choice that has been thought through in terms of both appearance and function.”
The solar panels now quietly power the studio, providing renewable energy while blending seamlessly into the roofline. They demonstrate that functionality and beauty can coexist without compromise.
Enduring beauty and value
At Skov Studio, sustainability means longevity and responsibility.
‘We select materials and solutions that endure and retain their value over time. The solar panels embody that same philosophy. They provide renewable energy that reduces our CO₂ footprint year after year,” say Julie and Simone.
This thoughtful, long-term approach mirrors Green Energy’s own mission: technology that integrates seamlessly into architecture while supporting everyday life and reducing environmental impact.
Inspiring sustainable choices
The sisters believe sustainable choices don’t have to come at the cost of design.
“Function, form, and responsibility can be united in a holistic expression that lasts over time. When you choose materials and solutions that you truly enjoy, and that also do something good, you create a home that both works in daily life and feels right to live in.”
Their stunning home demonstrates that discreet, integrated solar can preserve heritage, enhance beauty, and support a more sustainable future – all at once.
