Solar is now integral to Girr’s fleet strategy, delivering fuel efficiency, reliable power and lower emissions
Girr Logistik GmbH is a mid-sized logistics company based in Graben near Augsburg, operating a fleet of 100 vehicles. 37 of those are now installed with solar.
Challenge
Like many long-haul operators, Girr Logistik faced recurring issues with flat batteries caused by the high electrical demand from refrigeration units, air conditioning, and stationary heating during rest periods. This led to costly breakdowns, higher fuel consumption and reduced vehicle availability.
The company wanted to improve energy efficiency and advance its sustainability goals by reducing diesel use and CO₂ emissions — without compromising vehicle performance or driver comfort.

Solution
To address these challenges, Girr Logistik installed 165 Wp solar systems on semitrailer tractors and 380 Wp systems with inverters on box vehicles, directly on truck and trailer tractor roofs.
The installations were easily integrated into Girr Logistik’s maintenance routines, and carried out in-house by their workshop team after training and technical guidance from Green Energy.
The stored solar energy produced by the panels directly charges the vehicle’s batteries, powering onboard vehicle systems, refrigeration, cabin air conditioning, stationary heating, as well as battery-operated tools and 230V devices – all without needing to idle the engine or rely on external power.

Benefits
Since adopting Green Energy’s solar systems, Girr Logistik has seen measurable results in both fuel efficiency and environmental performance. It has reduced engine runtime, extended battery life, and provided a reliable power supply for everyday logistics operations.
- 52,000+ litres of diesel saved
- 140,000+ kg of CO₂ emissions avoided
- 4,800+ kWh of solar energy generated
- No more flat batteries, fewer service callouts
- Reduced idling, extended runtime for auxiliary systems
- Improved driver satisfaction: more comfort and reliability on long hauls
“The feedback from our drivers is consistently positive. The fridge can now run over the weekend without the battery being flat on Monday. The air conditioning and stationary heating also run for longer.”
– Hartmut Späth, Head of Workshop, Girr Logistik GmbH
