Green Energy Group Selected as Børsen Sustainable Case 2025

Documented CO₂ savings in heavy transport earn Green Energy a spot among this year’s Børsen Sustainable Cases

Green Energy Group has been recognised by Børsen, one of Denmark’s leading business publications, for our innovative solar panel solution for the heavy transport sector. We have been chosen as one of their Sustainable Cases 2025 showcasing the best in sustainable Danish innovation.

“We are incredibly proud to be recognised for our contribution to sustainable Danish innovation. It’s an important stamp of approval that our solution creates real impact – both for the climate and for companies’ bottom lines. The transition to decarbonisation in the transport sector will only happen if the solutions are accessible, scalable and economically viable,” said Martin Thaysen, CEO of Green Energy Group.

The project, developed in collaboration with Samat International AB, demonstrates how a practical and scalable solar solution can deliver measurable CO₂ reductions and cost savings in heavy transport – a sector where full electrification is still many years away.

Measurable CO₂ Reduction in Heavy Transport

Green Energy’s solution is designed with one clear focus: to deliver tangible, verifiable impact in the real world. The case illustrates how, together with Samat International AB in 2023, we tested and measured the potential of solar technology in operation. Over a 15-month period, Samat achieved 5% annual fuel savings per truck, 2,4 tons of CO₂ reduced per truck per year, a payback period of under 12 months, and extended battery life and fewer breakdowns. Read the case on Børsen’s website here: borsen.dk

The results speak for themselves. The project proves that practical innovation – based on solar energy and intelligent fleet data – can support both financial and operational priorities with environmental sustainability at the same time.

In 2024, the field study was expanded to include 44 trucks – 21 equipped with Green Energy’s solar solution and 23 as a control group. The full-year results not only confirmed the 2023 effects but showed even stronger figures:

  • 3,96 tons of CO₂ reduced
  • 6,9% average annual fuel savings
  • 1.478 litres of diesel saved per truck
  • a payback period of just 11 months.

Many roads to sustainable transport

The transport sector faces continuing pressure to reduce emissions, while the business climate and limited charging infrastructure make full electrification challenging. Our solution is one of several technologies large fleet operators and logistics companies are employing to support their decarbonisation and Net Zero ambitions. In companies for whom full electrification is not a viable priority right now, our solar systems provide an affordable and pragmatic solution to support compliance as well as operational efficiency and cost management.

With our solar solution, companies can:

– Meet ESG requirements and Scope 1 and Scope 3 reduction targets

– Reduce their dependency on fossil fuels

– Lower operating costs and extend the lifespan of existing fleets

Come meet us at the Børsen Sustainable Summit in Copenhagen

We will be showcasing our case and solution at Børsen Sustainable Summit 2025. Visit us on May 20th at Øksnehallen in Copenhagen to see how we help the transport sector take concrete steps toward a greener future. Come and talk to our CEO Martin Thaysen and Chairman of the Board Peter Kjær Jensen, who will be present on the day.

Date: May 20, 2025

Location: Øksnehallen, Copenhagen

About Green Energy

At Green Energy, we believe sustainability should be practical, measurable, and accessible. Our flexible, ultra-thin CIGS solar panels can be mounted directly on vehicle roofs, work even in partial shade, and are highly resistant to shock and vibration – making them perfect for the demanding conditions of the transport sector.

With our in-house developed Fleet Tracker system, companies can also document their energy production, CO₂ savings, and fuel reductions – ready for ESG reporting.

Explore more of the benefits of CIGS Solar Panels

The CIGS solar panel is often recognised on its slim profile, its flexibility and its low weight. CIGS solar panels are better than conventional solar panels in almost every aspect, when it comes to sustainability efforts and especially durability.
