Albufeira fire department sets the standard for eco-friendly emergency response with solar powered vehicles
The Albufeira Volunteer Fire Brigade is on standby to provide fire and rescue services. Whatever the situation when the volunteers arrive, time is of the essence. Thanks to Green Energy’s solar panels installed on two of their vehicles, the batteries are always charged.
Continuing a long tradition of volunteering
The volunteer fire department was founded in 1977 and today has 60 dedicated volunteers who are ready to step in when needed. There is a strong emphasis on training young recruits. That’s why the volunteer corps works hard to take part in everything from first aid courses to the annual Albufeira Sea Fest. Being visible is crucial to attracting new volunteer firefighters.
A green profile is a priority
With the installation of solar panels on the first two of the fire departments 30 trucks, it’s not just the direct access to 230V that counts. “It’s also the fuel savings and extended battery life that count.
Therefore, the plan is to install solar panels on several of the emergency services’ vehicles. “We avoid idling and it’s good for the environment, a clear win for everyone. A 110Wp solar kit has been installed on one of the vehicles and a 220Wp solar kit on the other vehicle”, says fire inspector Paulo Freitas.
Congratulations to the Albufeira Volunteer Fire Brigade on the two installations.
